New Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542

In July 2023, a new EU battery regulation (Regulation 2023/1542) was approved by the EU. The aim of the regulations is to create harmonized legislation for the sustainability and safety of batteries. The new regulation will replace the Battery Directive (2006/66/EC) that regulates batteries in the EU today. The regulation includes many new legislative measures.

When the regulation starts to apply on 18 February 2024, there will be no change compared to the current battery directive. However, with time, more and more new obligations and requirements will be introduced.

It it is high time for manufacturers and importers of battery-operated products to review their products. Do their products in their current form really comply with the new requirements? What do manufacturers, importers or distributors need to take into consideration?

New legislation can be difficult to get your head around. Familiarise yourself with the requirements now in an easy-to-understand way! During this half-day course, our battery experts will cover:

  • Background to the new battery regulation
  • What are the differences between the current Battery Directive and the upcoming Battery Regulation?
  • Overview of the regulated areas
  • What requirements the EU wants to introduce and when
  • CE marking of batteries
  • Overview of standards available today
  • Strategies for compliance
