Food Contact Materials

Food Contact Materials (FCM) are those materials intended to come into contact with food and are used in a broad range of applications including food packaging, food machinery equipment and household items. It is essential to mitigate the risks associated with migration of chemical substances from food contact materials, or articles, into food, which could pose a health threat. Expedited market entry while ensuring the safe use of your food contact material or article is also desirable.

 

Food contact regulatory requirements in the European Union (EU) are complex with harmonized EU level regulations for some FCM while for others there are regulations only available on a Member State level. Intertek now offers a training that gives you basic knowledge about the regulatory landscape in the EU for FCM.

Goals:

To gain understanding

  • On the requirements in the Commission Regulations EC 1935/2004 and EC 2023/2006 and Regulation EU 10/2011 and their implementation
  • On how to approach compliance work with food contact materials that do not have EU level regulations, e.g. paper and board, silicone and rubber, metal materials, coatings, printing inks and varnishes etc.
  • On the responsibilities within the food contact material supply chain with regard to regulatory requirements and communication

Educational tools:

  • Presentations are built on regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Exercise and/or case study may be included based on client wishes (on demand training).
