At 1st of August 2024, the EU Artificial Intelligence Act (AIA) came into force, with the aim to encourage innovation and uptake of AI while ensuring safety, respect for fundamental rights, transparency, and legal certainty. These new requirements became mandatory from 2 August 2025, by applying obligations for general-purpose AI models, governance rules, etc., continuing implementation in steps with full implementation by 2 August 2027.

The EU AI Act introduces a risk-based regulation for AI systems, dividing AI uses into categories. As a manufacturer in the EU of connected electrical products that contain an AI-system, this means you need among other to have a suitable Risk Management System, Technical Documentation, prepare Conformity Assessment & CE Marking, establish and maintain a Quality Management System, provide Transparency & User Instructions, Post-market Monitoring and for high-risk AI perform Registration in EU Database. Importers of such products/systems must make sure to check that the essential assessments have been done. Familiarize yourself with these new requirements now!
